What Clayfield is built from

Character homes first, units second

Much of Clayfield sits in Brisbane’s traditional character precincts, so the same house that makes the suburb worth living in makes the mounting job worth doing carefully.

Interwar Queenslanders and bungalows

Hardwood frames, VJ boards or hard plaster, 3 m ceilings and picture rails. The fixing is straightforward once the studs are found; the craft is in the set-out, the load spread across the boards, and leaving the rails and the boards as we found them. Renovated homes often have a dedicated media room off the back, which is the easiest room in the house.

High ceilings and mount height

The most common mistake we correct in Clayfield is a screen mounted too high. In a high-ceilinged room the correct height is set by the sofa, not the wall, and it is usually lower than the previous installer thought. We mark it and you sit and check before we drill.

Units on and off Sandgate Road

Steel stud with gyprock and the occasional concrete party wall. Internal walls need no body corporate approval. Larger screens on steel stud get a spanning plate; concrete gets sleeve anchors and one straight run of surface duct.

The Topline Price Promise

A fixed price on the phone, and the quote is the invoice

Every mounting job is priced on your actual wall, screen and cable run: a free, fixed number in one call, no site-visit fee and nothing added on the day. Already have a written quote from an insured installer? Show us and we beat it. The quote always covers set-out at your preferred height, stud or masonry location, a bracket fixed across at least two studs or into structural masonry, the screen hung, levelled and locked, every source tested in front of you, and the room left clean. The full wall-by-wall detail is on the Brisbane TV wall mounting page.

Clayfield questions

Asked from Clayfield, answered straight

A photo of the wall, the ceiling height if you know it, and the screen size is enough to price most Clayfield jobs on the phone.

Our Clayfield house has original VJ and high ceilings. Where should the TV go?

Lower than most people first suggest. With 3 m or higher ceilings the instinct is to mount high, and the result is a screen you look up at from the sofa. We set out from the seated eye line, mark it, and let you sit and check before anything is drilled. On original VJ the bracket fixes through the boards to the studs, and we spread the load so the boards stay flat. If the room has picture rails, we work with them rather than through them.

Can you conceal cables in a Queenslander wall with no cavity?

Sometimes fully, often partly, and we tell you which on the phone. Where there is no cavity behind the boards there is nothing to drop a cable through, so the honest options are a short run of painted surface duct that follows a board line, a route down behind skirting, or through the floor into the subfloor where the house is raised, which is often the neatest answer in Clayfield. We never hide the limitation until the day.

Do you mount in the unit blocks along Sandgate Road?

Yes. They are mostly steel stud and gyprock with some concrete party walls, and internal-wall mounting needs no body corporate approval. Larger screens on steel stud get a spanning plate across several studs. Concrete gets sleeve anchors and surface duct for the cable, and we keep the duct to a single straight line.
